Grow your business
The benefits of training
In order to grow your business you have to grow your staff. Having highly skilled, experienced and motivated staff is the only way to succeed in today’s competitive environment. Undertaking accredited staff training, based on a proper assessment of your business needs and objectives, provides a number of important benefits. These include:
- Improved staff morale by making them feel valued and providing greater learning opportunities
- Improved staff retention through career and personal development
- Performance improvement with increased focus on continuous improvement and innovation
- Ensuring your business meets its compliance and regulatory requirements
- Building stronger relationships with your staff and enhancing staff loyalty and commitment.
The benefits of workplace based training
Workplace based training offers the convenience of bringing training to your door and is a great way for your staff to learn new skills. NWT’s approach to training is a combination of theory, instruction and structured on-the-job learning which allows hands-on practical application and practice of the theory.
The most significant benefits of workplace based training include:
- There is minimal disruption to work flow
- Training is relevant to and tied in with existing or proposed work tasks
- Learners are able to apply what they’ve learned as they learn
How does the training happen?
In workplace based programs, the training is the responsibility of both NWT and the employer.
A qualified and experienced workplace trainer is allocated to each business. This process is managed by the NWT Training Manager who will carefully assess the business requirements and determine the most suitable trainer.
Training visits are scheduled for every 2 – 6 weeks (depending on the program) and are approximately 2-3 hours in duration, however times may vary depending on the individual’s needs. This training must be conducted in an area away from the learner’s normal work area and may occur one-on-one or in small groups.
Our workplace trainers integrate the learning requirements of the relevant qualification being studying with a trainee’s daily duties and tasks.
The NWT trainer will use a variety of techniques to introduce the learning topics. These techniques might include: discussion, demonstration, activities, role plays and simulations and are designed to establish the knowledge and skills that the learner will need to practice and develop before assessment.
The NWT trainer will also provide advice to the learner and the supervisor on the specific skills and knowledge the learner needs to develop and suggest how opportunities for further learning and practice can be provided in the workplace.
They will also discuss the assessment activities that must be completed by the learner and how the supervisor can support and assist the learner to achieve competence.
Eligibility for Government Subsidised Training
NWT may be able to offer a range of government subsidised training places under the Victorian Training Guarantee. These places may be available for eligible participants who are Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Australia under the following circumstances:
- Aged 15 – 19 years (age as at 1 January in the current year) for any qualification level
- Aged 20 years and over (as at 1 January in the current year) for qualifications that are at a higher level than any currently held
- Where not more than two government subsidised courses have started or are continuing in the current calendar year
Funding under the Victorian Training Guarantee is only available for accredited training and may be applicable for both traineeships and non-traineeships. NWT will determine a participant’s eligibility for government subsidised training and will provide further information on eligibility criteria upon request and during the enrolment process. Please note that fees are still payable for government subsidised training, however in some circumstances fee concessions and fee waivers may be applicable.
This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.
Traineeship Incentives
A range of incentives may be available for employers who employ and train their staff under a traineeship program. Payment of incentives is subject to employers and their trainees satisfying eligibility criteria set out in the Australian Government Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program Guidelines. NWT will work with you and an Australian Apprenticeships Centre to confirm eligibility for incentives under these guidelines.
